I Love my Brother
TFA Knightformers fic
Optimus and Rodimus, no slash just brotherly love

------------------------------------------

As the sunlight of the great sun of Primus shone through the large open windows of the private chamber and the veil curtains danced gently in the faint wind, Prince Rodimus sighed as he tried to stay comfortable on his faint couch. He was trying to zone out but it wasn't working due to the annoying distraction he was forced to listen to. His over sized turbo-fox pet, Akane, yawned as it laid beneath his faint couch, it's nine tails curled up around his soft body. Like his master, he was bored out of his simple mind. Rodimus would rather outside either training with his bow or play with Akane. Sadly that was not the case.

Today was like any other day when you're the second heir to the throne and happened to be blessed with beauty that could not be surpassed. Stuck in a guest room whilst listening to yet another suitor trying to woo him with his lame attempts at poetry.

The only reason he was even here was because it was his duty to interview potential suitors, even if he did hate them. He didn't have to chose any at he moment but he still had to let them come in and attempt to win him over. It was annoying as slag. Since he was the second born Prince of Iaconia he could be easily married off to another Kingdom's heir to strengthen their ties with them. So far there was no King, Queen, Prince or Princess from a trusted Kingdom who he could wed with. So he had to listen to Lords, Nobles and even Knights from all over who wish to have a connection with the Iaconia Royal Family by marrying him.

He was still not at the right age to wed so for now he could just observe his possible mate-to-be until he found the right one. King Ultra Magnus made certian that the suitors could be trusted but also tried to find one who would make his youngest son happy. Sadly they had different tastes.

So here he was, listening to some noble from the crystal city who was trying to woo him with lame poetry that was all about him.

"Do you like my poems, my Prince? I wrote them whilst thinking of you," said the suitor in a gleeful tone.

"You don't say?" muttered Rodimus.

"I beg your pardon, my Prince?"

"Hmm? Oh nothing...carry on."

He really wanted to say, shut up and get out, but he had to keep up appearances.

Thankfully they had an interruption and it arrived in the nick of time. A maid entered carry a fresh brew of tea and some oil cakes. Rodimus sat up and Akane jumped up at the smell of the cakes. He ran over and began rubbing up against the nervous maid.

"Akane, leave her alone," laughed Rodimus, secretly enjoying how his pet scared the servants.

"I-it's alright, my Prince. I'm s-still trying to get used to his...size,"stammered the maid.

The suitor seemed annoyed that he was interrupted as the maid placed the tea down. Rodimus personally found the whole thing amusing.

"Oh by the way, my Prince, your brother has returned from his trip."

The moment the maid uttered the words "brother" and "returned" the young Prince almost jumped off his faint couch.

"Optimus is back?" he asked quickly.

The maid nodded with a smile.

"Yes, he actually returned about an hour ago and he requested that you would not be informed until later for he is very-..."

She barely had enough time to finish her sentence as Rodimus jumped up and ran for the door. Akane merely purred and hopped onto the faint couch himself. The maid began to fret at what was to come and the suitor got upset as he watched the Prince leave.

"M-my Prince! I haven't even-..."

Rodimus turned and glared at him.

"I have no time for you now. The one mech I love has returned and not even you will stop me!"

The suitor looked like he was about to faint and he began to stutter in confusion.

"W-what? What do you m-mean?"

Rodimus just smirked and turned his back to him, his golden cloak slapping the air behind him. Without even looking back once he broke into a jog through the grand hallways of the Iaconia palace.

He could not believe Optimus had returned so early. He wasn't expecting him for at least another day. But who cared about that? His beloved older brother had come home from his long trip and now he wanted to see him. Being the eldest and the heir to the throne he had many duties that he had to take care of. He recently had to visit the Duke of the Crystal City to discuss trade and other trivial things that weren't that important. It felt like years had passed since he last saw him and the young Prince could not wait until he was wrapped in his brother's arms in a loving embrace.

Running past one of the many open courtyards, Rodimus paused and looked at the garden within the open space.

When he was little he always played in this courtyard with Optimus. When their lessons were finished for the day and they had nothing better to do Optimus would bring Rodimus down here to play within the plants and small trees that flourished here.

At the time many of the servants and even his father avoided him because his mother had just passed away and he bore a striking resemblance to her. He understood why after he matured but as a infant he always assumed that everyone just hated him. Only Optimus gave him the time of day. He would play with him when he was bored, cheer him up when he was sad and even tell him stories when he was in bed.

In fact it reminded him of something.

He was only three at the time. His mother had passed away two years after his birth yet the grieve still felt fresh. No one could bear looking at him. Maids couldn't look at him without bursting into tears. His father barely smiled when he saw him. Knights and palace guards avoided him out of fear. At the time Rodimus lead a sad and almost lonely life. The young Prince always got the impression that everyone hated him, his father included. In fact he spent most of his time hiding away.

It was his brother that took care of him.

Optimus never gave him a sad or strange look like everyone else did. He held his hand when he wanted to have someone stand with him. He took care of him when no one else could. When Optimus finished his lessons he would bring him to this very courtyard and play with him. He even tried to get their father to come and watch them and sometimes he did. In fact he almost joined in if it weren't for a meeting he had to attend.

That one afternoon they were playing when it started to rain. It took them by surprise and they panicked in fear they would get their gowns wet. They quickly hid under a tree and now they were debating on how to get back inside without getting wet.

"My cloak is big enough to cover us both but we still could get wet. Arcee won't be happy of we return with wet robes," sighed Optimus.

Rodimus pouted when he noticed the giant leaves of a nearby plant. He was able to grab one and he ran over to Optimus, waving the leaf and giggling with amusement.

"Lookie Opty! I have an umbrella!"

Optimus laughed as Rodimus held the leaf like an umbrella.

"You look funny!" he laughed as he removed his cloak.

"Come on then! Let's make a run for it! Me with my cloak and you with your...hehehe...umbrella!"

Rodimus laughed as he and his brother ran through the rain. It may had looked silly to those standing around but to the siblings it was pure joy. In fact they ran around a bit more before they made their way out of the courtyard.

However they were enjoying themselves so much that he tripped and fell flat on his face.

The little Prince whimpered as he pushed himself up before bursting into tears.

His robes were covered in dirt, his knee was bruised and the poor young thing could not help but bawl over the small incident. It didn't hurt that much but the young Prince could not help it. Rodimus was easily affected by these small things due to the stress he felt by everybody who wanted to avoid him. He could feel the anguish they had around him and it hurt him deep inside. He hated it. He hated being treated in such a way. He wanted to be treated as if he was normal.

But he had Optimus.

Optimus knelt down and dried his tears and wiped the dirt away. He uttered soothing words and gave him a piggy back ride back inside whilst telling him a few good jokes to get a giggle out of him.

Of course it was his dear brother who came over, uttered soothing words and wiped the dirt and tears away. He even offered to give him a piggy back ride and the pair of them would laugh and cheer as they made their way back inside. Arcee did scold the pair of them for getting wet and dirty but Optimus would cheer him up later on after they shared a bath together. Even during the bath he and his brother would have a splash war only for Arcee to tell them off before they splashed her.

Rodimus sighed as he recalled the distant memory. The courtyard and even the large leaves had grown smaller as he grew but he still recognized the spot where he tripped that day. He had tripped up a lot when he was little but every time he fell his brother was there to pick him and make him laugh.

His brother was always there for him. Even though he had heard Optimus cry for their late mother in his sleep the elder Prince did not let his grieve come in his way when it came to his little brother. He would sacrifice every spare time he had to take care of his little brother. He even scolded one of the gossiping maids who said something that upsetted the younger Prince. Eventually the grieve of his mother's passing in the palace came to an end and he spent even more wonderful young days with his brother and his father.

There was of course a time, when he got a little older, he began to wonder if his brother only cared for him because of how he resembled their mother. When he gathered the courage to ask Optimus of this he simply replied,

"You did look like mother back then but you were also my little brother and I promised our mother that I would be a loving big brother for you. I loved you because of who you were, not because of who you looked like."

The moment he said that he burst into tears again and wailed as he hugged his beloved brother.

In fact that was the last time he ever cried. He grew up after that along with his brother. He began to understood things he couldn't understand before and learn things that helped him cope with what had happened in the past. He still looked like his mother but now nobody minded that he did. Optimus had never given a dam of how he looked, he only saw his little brother and that it was his role to take care of him as a big brother should. He did admit that he liked how his little brother did remind him of their late mother and in a sense she was still living through him.

And that was why he loved him.

In their later years Optimus had matured and most of his youthful playful side was gone but all Rodimus had to do was provoke him a little dare or two and it would start to show again. Sometimes he would ignore it but there were times when he could not resit and play along. He did get a little mad when Rodimus dared him to go into a monster infested cave but laughed it off afterwards. Also since Optimus was the heir to the throne he had many responsibilities and had to leave his young brother whenever duty called. Rodimus never liked it when his brother left but he would celebrate his return no matter how long he had been gone.

Now he was back he was going to celebrate whether he liked it or not.

It didn't take him that long before he stood outside his brother's room and without even knocking he walked right on in. Scanning his brother's chambers he despretely tried to locate him.

"Optimus? Where are you?"

It didn't take him long to spot him and as he gazed at him Rodimus could not help but smile.

Optimus was indeed present in his chambers but he was laying on his berth and fast asleep. He was still wearing his worn out robes and armor but he must had been so exhausted when he returned that he just flopped onto his berth and closed his optics. Arcee would had scolded him if he caught him like that in their youth but now that they were older she believed that they were now responsible and able to take care of themselves. Even Optimus had his limits and now here he was, home and lying on his berth like an worn out gladiator.

It was clear now why he didn't wished to be disturbed, he was far too tired to be welcomed home by his younger brother. Rodimus could not fault him for he too knew what it was like to come home exhausted from a long trip. If he was more awake then he would had wasted no time in informing Rodimus that he was home.

The younger Prince smirked as he climbed up onto the berth and snuggled against his brother, Optimus stirring slightly but not awakening. Instead he sighed as he felt his brother hold him and unknowly held him back. Rodimus sighed as he hugged his slumbering brother and gently kissed him on the helm as his own optics began to close.

"I missed you dear Brother...I love you, more than you know."
