OK, after the whole Anne Frank thing, I realized that there are famous icons in History that some of us know nothing about.

So, I decided that I will tell you of an icon from history, you may or may not know, and hopefully you will do the same thing in your journals, and share with everyone people who should never be forgotten, and will hopefully restore faith in our species

Plus it's kinda fun, like a history trade ^^

So I chose Sir Nicholas Winton AKA The British Schindler

In the early days of World War 2, this humble man rescued over 600 jewish children from being sent to concentration camps. He sent them over to the UK with passports and along with his mother, sought to find them new homes and loving families. He even kept a scrapbook of all their names, and their new families. The children he rescued were known as Winton's Children

Now this video will make you cry, but on one particular evening he was being honored, the hostess read one of the names out from his scrapbook, a young girl, and to his surprise the middle aged woman sitting next to him was that girl. They hugged and shared some tears and the hostess then asked if there was anyone else in the audience who owed this man their lives, and about two dozen people suddenly stood up.

This is the one few men in the world, who risked everything to keep a number of children safe from the horrors of the war

So if you haven't heard of him, now you know, and I would love to hear if you knew any great man or woman from ages past, and not just WW1 or WW2 heros.

So come on, tell me ^^

How about Desiree Clary? She was the daughter of a silk merchant in Marseilles, and ended up Queen of Sweden. She at one point was engaged to Napoleon and actually helped launch his career, then was dumped for Josephine. Her husband was a Marshall of France and later adopted by the King of Sweden.

Or T.E. Lawrence, known as Lawrence of Arabia. He defined his English superiors to assist in the uprisings of the arabic people against the Ottomans and then the British Empire!

Or Mahatama Ghandi! He helped bring the first steps to the defeat of the apatheid government in South Africa through his civil rights efforts and then helped gain the freedom of India and Pakistan. He helped highlight the way the Indian people were treated especially after the Massacre at the Matyrs Well.
